Protecting Your Rights
No area of law exposes an individual to greater risk of loss than the area of criminal law. Unfortunately, most people feel helpless when confronted by law enforcement or after they have been accused of breaking the law. More unfortunate still is the fact that many people who are arrested or who are accused of committing a crime do not take immediate steps to protect their own rights.
But taking a "wait and see" approach to your own criminal defense is, in no uncertain terms, taking too great a risk.
At Albin | Harrison | Roach, we believe in the truth of Thomas Jefferson's statement that "it is more dangerous that even a guilty person should be punished without the forms of law than that he should escape." We also believe in taking a proactive and aggressive approach to defending and protecting the rights of clients who have been charged or accused of committing criminal acts.
Simply put, we challenge the state's case against our clients at every opportunity and we make their prosecutors meet the burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.
Our Practice
Our criminal defense practice is managed by attorney Manuel Gonzales. Mr. Gonzales is board-certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a distinction that, according to the Texas State Bar's statistics for 2007, only about one percent of attorneys statewide can claim. Mr. Gonzales also has more than a decade of experience in the Collin County District Attorney's Office as a former prosecutor to offer our firm's criminal defense clients.
Mr. Gonzales practices in the county and district courts of Collin County and those of the surrounding counties in North Texas. Over the course of his professional career, he has taken countless cases to trial involving adult and juvenile offenses of all types, including drunk driving, drug possession, possession with intent, drug trafficking, theft, robbery, fraud and even capital murder.
Last, Mr. Gonzales also spent two years practicing appellate law and has presented cases before various Texas Courts of Appeals as well as the highest criminal law appellate court in the state, The Court of Criminal Appeals.
